How IT workS
How does SDA funding work?
The NDIS pays for most of your rent through your SDA funding so all you need to pay is what’s called a ‘reasonable rent contribution’. This rental contribution consists of 25% of your disability pension plus the entire of your Centrelink Rent Assistance. If you don’t receive these payments then your rental contribution will be the equivalent of these amounts.
What if you are not funded to live by yourself?
The NDIS now allows what’s called a ‘discretionary rent contribution’. This provides the freedom to choose where and who you live with by offering to pay additional rent to live in an SDA dwelling that is in a higher funded category than your own. For example you could be funded to live with one other person but you want to live on your own. You are able to use your two bedroom SDA funding plus offer to pay additional rent over your standard rental contribution to be able to secure a one bedroom dwelling. This contribution is negotiated with your SDA provider and owner of the property.
